Welcome to our website

Team PrISUm is a multidisciplinary student organization that designs, builds, and races solar powered electric vehicles. Outreach and education are a large part of our project--E-mail us if you would like the solar car at an event.

This project would not be possible without our current and past sponsors, and we encourage you to take a look at our sponsorship page and download a copy of the Corporate Sponsorship Packet or an Adopt-a-Cell to find out how you can help us pave the way for renewable energy transportation.

PrISUm News

Sol Invictus is home - September 16, 2008

After a rushed week in Texas wiring the car and tweaking the mechanical systems, ten days spent covering 2400 miles of North America's roads, and a trip to Mt. Rushmore, Sol Invictus is finally back home. It's been a busy few months - which explains why it took until September to say so - but the team is finally getting back into the swing of things. Design meetings have begun for the P10 project, and some radical redesigns are in the works to make the team more competitive for the 2010 North American Solar Challenge.

The Solar Car year has officially started, which means general and mechanical/electrical meetings are now going to be held weekly at the standard times (see the left sidebar). A big thanks to everyone who showed up for last night's meeting, the first general meeting of the year - it was a great turnout, and we have some promising new members. If you missed the meeting, it's not too late to join - feel free to attend this week's mechanical or electrical meeting, and be sure to catch the next General Meeting Monday at 8PM in 171 Durham.

Finally, since we didn't have time for an unveiling before we left for the race, we will be holding a reception on Thursday, September 18, at the garage (Old Sweeney, just north of the water tower) from 4-6. Come by, have a cookie and some punch, tour the garage and see Sol Invictus in all its post-race glory. More information can be found here.

NASC Report - July 4, 2008

The team has started a blog to give updates for the race! Go here to check it out and see our daily race reports!

Updates and Online Donation Site!! - March 28, 2008

Well it's been a while since our last update! Team members have spent countless hours preparing the body of Sol Invictus, and it will be ready for paint soon. The months of January and February were without weekends for most of our team members, as we travelled to Northwest Airlines each Friday evening and returned late on each Sunday night. We're happy to finally be back at home!

We are still being met with delays on fabricating our frame, but we hope to have it completed in the next month. All of our sponsors have been very helpful, but the season is busy for everyone!

The batteries came earlier this week, and our precious solar cells are scheduled to arrive today! E-team will definitely be busy in the coming weeks preparing the entire system. Not having the frame will require much more detailed planning, but we will do what is necessary.

Finally, Scott Elliott, our Electrical Systems director, has been working on our online donations site for a few weeks now, and he would appreciate if you tried it out and validated all of his hard work. The team would appreciate it too, as we are currently running short on funds to help us participate in the race.

Stay tuned, and we will hopefully be posting some pictures soon!

PrISUm's ninth car, Sol Invictus will race in NASC 2008!! - January 22, 2008

Team members met last week to give updates from our winter break and to decide the name of our ninth solar racer! We went through all of your suggestions and finally decided on 'Sol Invictus.' The term literally means the 'Unconquered Sun,' so we have high hopes for P9.

The submitter of this name remains anonymous, so if you suggested it, please let us know and we will reward you! Now we're in need of a paint scheme and name design for the car, so if you have any suggestions, fire them our way.

Busy Weekend for Team PrISUm--Frame and Body update - November 2, 2007

Members of the team are traveling to Collinsville, IL this weekend with our top mold. Advanced Pattern Works in Collinsville has agreed to machine the top mold at cost. The team was in a bind without a mill for our molds, but APW came through for us!

Along the way we will be stopping in Winfield, IA. We are pleased to report that American Waterjet Cutting has committed to helping us stay on track with the construction of our chassis. The Winfield company will be waterjetting aluminum support tabs for our frame, which is scheduled to be welded later this month.

Remmele Engineering Open House this Weekend! - October 24, 2007

The team will be displaying our 2005 car, Fusion, in Big Lake, MN this weekend at Remmele Engineering's Open House. The open house runs from 12pm to 4 pm on Saturday, October 27th.

P-9 Naming Contest Begins - October 21, 2007

Help us choose a name for our next car and you could win two free T-shirts and have your name printed on the side of our trailer. At the end of the contest team members will take a vote, and if your entry is chosen you win.

Team PrISUm will be in Oskaloosa this Friday, September 21st at Oskaloosa Middle School and also at Musco lighting, a major sponsor of the team! Check the outreach page for our schedule!

NASC 2008 is on! - September 13, 2007

The organizers of the North American Solar Challenge recently announced the status of NASC 2008. Toyota has stepped up as a major sponsor for the competition, so the Team officially has a race, and we are pushing forward with building efforts!!
